The Buzz Mini Hornets Triumph at the ProStrakan TournamentMelrose Mini Hornets from P4 to P7 took part in the ProStrakan Mini Tournament at Netherdale on Sunday 22nd April. There was a wonderful afternoon of rugby, with teams from Kirkcaldy, Kelso, Langholm, Selkirk, Linlithgow, Melrose, Gala and Jedburgh providing the action. P4 Mini Hornets won all their qualifying games to meet Selkirk in the semi-final. They then won this match to go forward to the final where they triumphed against Kelso. P5 won their qualifier against Kirkcaldy, lost narrowly to Gala and drew their match with Langholm. Progress to the semis came down to a try count and, unfortunately, they were pipped for a place by one try. P6 stormed through their qualifying games and won their encounter against Selkirk in the semi-final. In the final they met Kirkcaldy where they won 2-0. P7 Mini Hornets also won all their qualifying matches, as well as their semi-final against Gala. In the final they met with Kelso and this match ended in a 1-1 draw. The game then went to an extra-time ‘golden try’ decider and, just when it seemed this would also end in a draw, Kelso scored a breakaway try to clinch the match, with Melrose worthy runners-up. The Melrose Mini Hornets were very proud to go home with two trophies and runners-up medals after a great afternoon of sport at a very well organised tournament.
